Warriors use fast start to down Tiger girls, 54-38
Crossing state lines in search of their next Top-10 opponent, the Marshall girls’ basketball team became the latest team to find itself in the wake of the Sioux Falls Washington (S.D.) Warriors.
With a 54-38 win in Sioux Falls, S.D., on Friday, the Warriors, the top ranked team in South Dakota’s Class AA, improved to 11-0 on the season with all 11 wins coming by at least 10 points.
A trio of 6-footers helped keep the Tigers off the glass and paved the way for Washington. Forward/center Sydney Koel had a team-high 14 points for Washington, while Ellie Benson also had 14.
Marshall fell behind 16-2 early in the game, but only trailed 24-17 at halftime. Unfortunately for the Tigers, Washington would hit five 3-pointers to take hold of the game after the break.
Kenzie Beekman led all scorers with 17 points, while also grabbing seven of the Tigers’ 17 rebounds. She also had six steals. Sarah Andersen and Hannah Bennett each added seven points to the Marshall cause.
The Tigers, ranked eighth in Minnesota Class AA, fall to 13-3 with the loss and return to the court today to host the Hill-Murray Pioneers at 3:30 p.m.
