WILLMAR – Services for Thomas Flannigan, 71, of Willmar will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Svea Lutheran Church in Svea. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.
He died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at his home in Willmar, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Thomas Wayne Flannigan was born Oct. 23, 1941, in Morris, the son of Richard and Gertrude (Schmidgall) Flannigan. Tom was baptized on Oct. 24, 1941, in the Lutheran faith. He grew up in the Morris/Benson area. On March 23, 1968 he was united in marriage to Elaine Wrobleski in Benson. The couple later moved to Willmar where Tom worked as a truck driver and mechanic for Jennie-O Foods for the next 30 years. Following retirement he worked for Magnuson Sheet Metal and Magnuson Farms, a job he truly loved.
He was a member of the Willmar Eagles Club Aerie 2334. He loved time with his family and grandchildren, spending time outdoors, tending his vegetable garden, deer hunting, fishing and camping. Special highlights of the past 25 years were the annual trips to Ely with his brothers.
Tom is survived by his wife, Elaine of Willmar; children, Tony (Kim) Flannigan of Paynesville, Terri (Brad) Steffen of Kandiyohi, Tammy Meyer of Bellingham, Wash., Lori (Lowell) Matthys of Marshall, Mike (Patti) Flannigan of Svea; 20 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; sister, Caroline Hagen of Benson; brothers, Pat (Susan) Flannigan of Oakdale and Rick (Laurie) Flannigan of Stillwater.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Gert; step-mother, Ada; and brother, Jim.
A celebration of life for family and friends will be at the home of Brad and Terri Steffen following the services for anyone who wants to join the family for reminiscing. 7902 County Road 8 NE, Kandiyohi.
