SMSU cross country/track signs 3 student-athletes
The Southwest Minnesota State cross country/track programs had three athletes sign national letters of intent to continue their careers at SMSU Wednesday.
Chelsea Schlegel, from Zimmerman, will run both cross country and track at SMSU. She is a four-year letterwinner in both sports. Schlegel has a personal best of 11:44.61 in the 3,200-meter run and 15:08.70 in the 4,000-meter run. She finished 42nd in the 2011 Class AA state cross country meet.
Paige Yi, of Algona, Iowa, will also run both cross country and track at SMSU. She is a state qualifier in both sports and holds her school’s record in the 800-meter run at 2:20.9.
Jay Schneider, of Mequon, Wis., will run track and play football at SMSU. He is a three-time state medalist in track. Schneider has a personal best and school record time of 6.63 in the 55-meter dash and a 10.98 in the 100-meter dash. His personal best in the long jump is 22 feet, 6 inches.
