MARSHALL – Mass of Christian Burial for Joan Polfliet, 81, of Marshall will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Rehkamp-Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall with CCW Rosary at 4 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue from 12:30 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Joan died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Morningside Heights surrounded by her seven children.
Joan Marie (Qunell) Polfliet was born on July 20, 1931, in Lyon County, Marshall, MN to Ovid and Cecilia (Gregoire) Qunell. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. She grew up on a farm in the Marshall area. Joan was married to Francis Polfliet on Aug. 24, 1949, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. They made their home and raised seven children on a farm near Cottonwood until they moved to their present home in Marshall in 1973. After leaving the farm, Joan worked at Woolworth for several years, and then at the Schwan Food Co. Joan enjoyed bowling, traveling, biking, crocheting, knitting, sewing and holding babies. (Any baby would do!)
Joan is survived by her children, Beverly (and Norm) Miskowiec of New Brighton, Debbie (and Allan) Poncin of Circle Pines, Terry (and Pam) Polfliet of Mondovi, Wis., Larry (and Cindy) Polfliet of Marshall, Sherri (and Dan) Halverson of Eau Claire, Wis., Daniel (and Becky) Polfliet of Marshall, Pat (and Dawn) Polfliet of Lakeville; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Joyce (Redding) and Vern Gos, Janet (and Ed) McFarlane; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis of 63 years; brothers, Bob and George; sister, Gloria and twin-sister Jean.
