Mustang golf takes 9th

A second round 361 for the Southwest Minnesota State women’s golf team placed the Mustangs ninth at the 10-team SMSU Spring Invite at the LPGA International Legend Course in Daytona Beach, Fla.

The Mustangs finished the 36-hole event with a score of 735.

Top honors in the team portion of the event went to Lynn University (Fla.) with a score of 610. Lynn finished 11 shots ahead of second place Barry University (Fla.). Ellen Chambers from Lynn took medalist honors with a 6-over 150 in the two day event.

Krista Weiszhaar had the top individual performance for SMSU, placing 33rd after shooting a 26-over 170. Her 16-over 88 during the final round was the low round of all Mustangs. Abby Gruber shot a 90 on Friday to finish her tournament in 49th place with a 36-hole total of 188.

SMSU will be back on the links on March 24-25 at the Missouri Western State Invite in St. Joseph, Mo.
