Faith in action for April 5
St. Stephen Lutheran Church
Each winter during the holiday season, food shelves and other social service organizations all over Minnesota receive generous donations. They are grateful for this support from the community, but many of those donations don’t stretch to cover the year-round needs of families in crisis. To help raise awareness of those continuous needs and to restock the shelves after the busy holiday season, the month of March is designated as Minnesota FoodShare Month. This year marks the 31st year of this annual drive that supports the work of 300 food shelf locations in our state.
St. Stephen Lutheran Church (along with many other congregations in the Marshall area) participated in Minnesota Food Share Month again this year by collecting donations of food and cash for our Kitchen Table Food Shelf here in Marshall. At the end of the month, St. Stephen was able to make a donation to the food shelf of 1,100 pounds of food to go along with more than $1,040 in financial contributions. Our congregation’s tradition continued of significantly increasing our annual March donation each year!
We are all called to do God’s work in this world using our hands and the resources we have received. This service takes many forms – supporting the food shelf and working to address issues of poverty in our community is one specific and concrete way we can respond to God’s call. What other ways might you be able to use your hands and resources to serve in our community and serve God’s word?
We encourage you to support the Kitchen Table Food Shelf all year long because we know that helping to meet physical needs is an important part of caring for the whole person!
