MCC baseball team drops debut to Windom
Four Murray County Central pitchers combined for 10 walks, while four more errors by the Rebels defense paved the way for 11 Windom runs during an 11-8 loss to the Eagles in Slayton on Saturday.
MCC trailed 7-0 entering the bottom of the fifth inning when the bats erupted for five runs. Windom added three insurance runs in the top of the sixth and another in the seventh to fend off the Rebels, who were making their 2013 season debut.
Seth Bass went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and two RBIs for MCC. Jordan Ahlers also went 2-for-3 from the plate, adding a pair of doubles and an RBI. Paul Mesmer, who pitched two scoreless innings for the Rebels to start the game, was 1-for-3 with a double.
Andy Pfeffer and Devin Nelson went 2-for-4 and 2-for-3, respectively, for half of Windom’s hits, while Brandon Thongvivong was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Thongvivong allowed three runs in two innings of duty, but held on to pick up a save for the Eagles. Collin Lovell started for Windom, earning the win behind eight strikeouts.
Zach Ostman was credited with the loss for MCC (0-1 overall), allowing four runs over two innings of duty.
MCC is scheduled to continue its season on Tuesday against Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove in Lamberton.
