Augie repeats as NSIC golf champ; SMSU finishes in 7th
The Augustana Vikings had four of the top five individual finishers and claimed first place for the fourth straight year after shooting a team score of 319 Sunday in the final round of the NSIC Women’s Golf Championships at Paradise Point Golf Club in Smithville, Mo.
Southwest Minnesota State had its top score on the final day of competition, registering a 344 to finish with a four-round total of 1,435.
Augustana had no challengers at the top of the standings. The Vikings four-round score of 1,279 (127-over par) was 61 strokes better than runner-up Minnesota State-Mankato.
The first two rounds of the NSIC Championships were played Oct. 6-7 at Classics at Madden’s in Brainerd at the conclusion of the fall season. The second two rounds took place Saturday and Sunday at Paradise Point Golf Club.
Augustana’s Allie Ostrander shot a four-round total of 313 (25-over) to finish in first place individually. Teammates Maggie Leland (320), Marisa Toivonen (324) and Emily Kvidera (326) finished second, fourth and fifth, respectively, to help the Vikings dominate the field.
SMSU senior Krista Weiszhaar was the Mustangs’ top finisher. She shot an 83 Saturday and an 86 Sunday to complete a four-round score of 352, good for a tie for 20th. Rachel Patnoe finished eight shots back in 24th. Marissa Campeau shot an 87 Saturday and an 85 Sunday to finish with a final score of 367, which put her in 31st place.
Augustana moves on to compete at the NCAA Central Region Tournament, which will take place May 5-7 in St. Joseph, Mo. Other qualifying team’s for the region tournament will be announced April 29.
