Bell leads charge on Day 2 of Howard Wood Dakota Relays
A 10th-place finish by Marshall’s Andrew Bell in the 3,200-meter run highlighted Day 2 of the Howard Wood Dakota Relays for a small group of Marshall-area athletes who made the trip to Sioux Falls, S.D.
Bell, a cross country state qualifier from the fall, completed Saturday’s 3,200 run in 10 minutes, 1.37 seconds. Nate Schroeder of Sioux Falls Lincoln (S.D.) was first in the 65-runner field with his time of 9:40.42.
Also taking part in the high-profile meet were Marshall girls’ team members Shyla Hansen and Sydney Blomme, who both were both in the 3,200 run. Hansen, a senior, finished 38th (12:25.44) and Blomme, a seventh-grader, was 52nd (12:50.66). Hannah Kastigar of Aberdeen Central (S.D.) finished in 11:06.28 to win the 62-runner event.
Five other Tigers competed in Day 1 action Friday. The Marshall 4×800 relay team took fourth in the Class AA division, while sophomore Sarah Buysse was 14th in the 400 dash and 26th in the prelims of the 100 dash.
Canby/Minneota/Lincoln HI’s Amanda Grengs got 25th place Saturday in the 3,200 (12:00.31), and the Lancer girls’ 4×800 relay team was 15th in the Class A division Friday with its time of 10:41.63.
Westbrook-Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central had a pair of athletes compete in the hurdle events. Derek Christians was 36th in the 300 hurdles (48.66) and Levi Bunting took 37th in the 110 hurdles (18.29).
