Bernice was born Feb. 27, 1927, to Camiel and Alma (Bjerkestrand) Van Dorpe in Ghent. After graduation from high school, Bernice worked as a telephone operator in Minneota. On April 8, 1947, Bernice married Bernard Jacob Fry at the St. Leo Church in St. Leo. They farmed for a time near Ghent and then in January of 1952 they bought a farm in rural Long Prairie. Bernice was a housewife and mother who helped work and manage their farm in Long Prairie. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis and the Little Sauk American Legion Auxiliary.

In 1981 the Frys sold their farm and retired to a home outside of Osakis.

Bernice loved to bake and was an excellent cook, often baking five loaves of bread twice a week for her family to enjoy. She was also known for her homemade donuts and Belgian cookies. Bernice had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening. She canned many jars of fruits and vegetables while living on the farm. She raised and successfully managed it as a pig farm in later years. Bernice enjoyed her family, traveling, fishing, crocheting, reading and taking Sunday drives around the countryside. She also liked music and enjoyed the dances at Round Prairie on Saturday nights. She was a loving mother, grandma and great grandma who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Bernice is survived by her children, Patricia (Julian Misener) Fry-Misener of Lake Geneva, Wis., Jeanne (Gordon) Van Heel of Circle Pines, James (Marilyn) Fry of Osakis, Theresa “Teri” (Dave) Haburn of Osakis, Donna (Dave Eveland) Nykaza of Fargo, N.D., and Rodney (Brenda) Fry of Fergus Falls; 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; siblings, Alice Determan of St. Peter, Vincent (Janet) Van Dorpe of Le Sueur, Delores (Francis) Sussner of Minneota, Genevieve Alhmann of Marshall and Andrew (Judy) Van Dorpe of W.
