Worthington 11, Minneota 9
A strong rally fell just short for the Minneota Mudhens Sunday in an amateur baseball game in Worthington. The Mudhens fell behind 9-1 after allowing seven runs in the third inning, then put together four-run innings in the fourth and eighth but came up shy in an 11-9 loss.
The Mudhens had 14 hits in the loss. Jason Myhre led the way at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. Tyson Sonnenburg was 3-for-6 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Tony Shaikoski got the start for the Mudhens and lasted just 2 2/3 innings. He gave up nine runs on nine hits and a walk. Danny Hennen went the rest of the way, allowing two runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts.
The Mudhens (2-1 overall) will try to bounce back from their first loss of the season on Friday when they travel to Marshall to take on the A’s at 7:30 p.m. at Legion Field.

Fairmont 8, Milroy Irish 3
Levi Becker went 4-for-5 at the plate with two doubles to help the Fairmont Martins to an 8-3 win over the Milroy Irish in amateur baseball action Sunday in Fairmont.
Southwest Minnesota State baseball player Jon Ellis also had a solid day for the Martins, going 3-for-4 with a triple.
Dominic Dolan and Aaron Antony each had two hits for Milroy, which drops to 1-1 on the year. One of Dolan’s hits was a double.
The Irish play two games on the road next Sunday, the first against Wilmont and the second against Hadley.

Wilmont 11, Tracy 0
Coming off a state tournament appearance last year, the Wilmont Cardinals opened their 2013 season strong with an 11-0 win over the Tracy Express Sunday in Wilmont.
Tracy pitcher Tylan Gylling kept the Express in the game through four innings, but Wilmont exploded or seven runs in the fifth to take control.
Gylling went 4 1/3 innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits with six walks. Eric Wiering went the rest of the way for Tracy, giving up three runs on four hits.
Wilmont pitchers Justin Saufley, Nick Ahrens and Aaron Diekmann combined to hold the Express to just two hits in the game. Jeremy Hoflock and Brent Wiering each had a single for Tracy.
At 1-1 overall, Tracy will be back on the road Wednesday for a game against Sacred Heart.
