Virginia Ruth Brock Brantman passed away at The Sweet Life Shawnee in Shawnee.
Virginia was born April 17, 1924, in Hazel Run. She graduated from Hanley Falls High School in 1942. After graduation she began working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She married Gordon Brantman on June 1, 1947, residing in Marshall. After the birth of their 3 children, she helped in the family ballroom and insurance businesses but mostly was a stay at home mom. She was a Girl Scout leader (including cookie sale chairman!), Cub Scout leader and Sunday School teacher.
In 1963 the family moved to Des Moines, Iowa. Virginia returned to work for Northwestern Bell/US West/Quest until her retirement in 1994 after a total of 32 years of service. Virginia moved to the Kansas City area in 2006 to be close to family.
Her family always came first and time spent with them was the best. How proud she was of them. She enjoyed the churches she attended very much. Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights was a favorite. She loved Big Band music and could name that tune and quote the lyrics as well as the performers. In her words “I’ve had a good life”.
She is survived by their children and their spouses: Jo Ann and Duane Skorupan of Shawnee, Greg and Susan Brantman Fairway, Kan., and Jill and Dr. Charles Schwantes of Prior Lake; two grandchildren: Tom and Stephanie Brantman of Fairway, and Heather Brantman and Phil Torpey of Roeland Park, Kan; and two great-grandchildren: James and August Brantman of Fairway.
She was preceded in death by husband Gordon in 1997.
Thanks to Gentiva Hospice staff for their support. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the incredibly caring staffs of Freedom Pointe and Sweet life Shawnee for their help, guidance and energy along our journey.
