BELVIEW – Services for Rupert Barnes, 83, of Belview will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Belview. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial is in Grace Lutheran Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
He died Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Sept. 2, 1929, in Rowena, to Burlyn and Leona (Hauptli) Barnes. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in November 1948 and served as a weatherman. He was honorably discharged in September 1952.
Survivors include his children, Pam Breitkreutz of Belview, Kim Sander of Belview, Darrel of Orlando, Fla., and Ronda Barnes of Anoka; 11 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; siblings, Marilyn Guardia of Pascagoula, Miss., Elaine Watson of Houston, Pa., Audrey Tracy of Burnsville, N.C., Dewan of Barnesville, Dallas of Burnsville, Bette Barnes of Redwood Falls, Richard of Rosemount, Myrl of St. Peter, Burlyn of Redwood Falls, and Sharon Kretsch of Redwood Falls.
