3 people killed in weekend incidents
Three people are dead after two incidents during the weekend – one on the water, the other on the highway.
A woman and a girl who have not been identified were killed after a boat overturned on Lac qui Parle Lake on Saturday afternoon, the Associated Press reported.
The Lac qui Parle County Sheriff’s Office said authorities pulled three people from the water, the AP said. A man and a girl were taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson. A woman was taken to the Chippewa County Hospital in Montevideo.
The girl and woman were both pronounced dead at the hospitals.
Authorities are investigating.
Also on Saturday, a man was killed in a crash that Balaton Fire Chief Darrell Crumrine said occurred shortly after 2 a.m. The vehicle left U.S. Highway 14 in Balaton and rolled over. It was on fire by the time emergency personnel arrived at the scene, Crumrine said.
An obituary received by the Independent on Sunday said Matthew Rand, 35, of Jeffers was killed in a crash Saturday in Balaton. According to the obituary, he is a former resident of Taunton.
