Deutz named to Prudential Leading Edge Society
Tim Deutz of Prudential Elite Realty received the 2012 Leading Edge Society Award during Prudential Real Estate’s annual Sales Convention in Las Vegas, Nev., March 10-12.
This achievement award recognizes residential sales professionals in the Prudential Real Estate network who in the past year reached great sales thresholds in closed residential GCI, commercial GCI or residential units.
“I congratulate Tim on this outstanding achievement. Despite a challenging market conditions, he continues to produce at record levels” said Pat Lutterman, a broker/owner, Prudential Elite Realty.
Deutz entered the real estate field in 1995 and joined Prudential Elite Realty in March 2008.
Hartman achieves board certification
Avera Medical Group physician Dr. Jane Hartman has earned certification in sports medicine through the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine.
Dr. Hartman is a family medicine physician and is board certified in family medicine through the American Osteopathic Board of Family Medicine.
Her recent certification – a certificate of added qualifications in sports medicine – recognizes excellence among providers who care for people who participate in athletics or exercise programs.
Hartman has been a member of the Avera Medical Group since October 2012.
Marshall GreenStep announces GreenStep businesses
The Marshall GreenStep Committee announces that two organizations were recognized as Marshall GreenStep Businesses during the month of May.
They are being acknowledged for their efforts in solid waste prevention, conservation of resources, recycling and energy efficiency.

Prudential Financial’s Kontz qualifies for Million Dollar Round Table, Court of the Table
Prudential Financial, Inc. announced Thursday that Jim Kontz, a financial professional with The Prudential Insurance Company of America, in Marshall has qualified for membership in the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) Court of the Table one of the life insurance industry’s most prestigious organizations.
Achieving membership in MDRT’s Court of the Table is a career milestone attained only by those who have demonstrated exceptional professional knowledge, client service and ethical conduct. Court of the Table members distinguish themselves within the industry through their superior performance by producing at a level three times that of MDRT membership requirements.
Each year, more than 3,500 MDRT members qualify for the Court of the Table.
“Jim exemplifies everything that MDRT stands for the highest standards of professionalism, competence, integrity, and putting the needs of our customers first,” said Caroline Feeney, president of Agency Distribution at Prudential.
Northstar announce managerial changes
Schmidt promoted to senior vice president
Melinda Schmidt, AIM, has been promoted to senior vice president. Schmidt has worked for North Star since 1977 and has been serving as Vice President of Human Services. Schmidt and her husband, Greg, live in Wood Lake. They have six children: Andy, Lacey, Megan, Abbey, Taylor and Heidi and seven grandchildren.
Gniffke promoted to business processes vice president
Deb Gniffke has been promoted to vice president of business processes. Gniffke was previously manager of business processes and has worked for North Star since 1981. She lives on a farm near Cottonwood with her husband, Steve. They have three grown children: Eric, Ryan and Chelsey.
Hellie elected treasurer
Pete Hellie, CPCU, AINS, has been elected treasurer for North Star, and he continues in his position of senior vice president. Hellie joined North Star in 2008 and from 2008-2011 was vice president of finance. Previous to North Star, Hellie was manager of Norwegian Mutual Insurance Company of Cottonwood. He and his wife, Joy, live on a farm near Cottonwood, and they have two grown children: Andy and Kate.
Metz promoted to property/casualty claims vice president
Gary Metz, CPCU, AIC, ARE is being promoted to vice president of property/casualty claims effective June 24. He is currently the manager of property/casualty claims and has been with North Star since 1992. Metz lives in Marshall with his wife, Belynda, and son, Connor. They also have a grown daughter, Mariah.
Brower promoted to IT vice president
Jon Brower, CPCU, has been promoted to vice president of information technology. He has been serving as manager of IT. Brower has worked for North Star since 1994 and was a part time employee from 1988-1994. He and his wife, Dani, live near Cottonwood with their children: Jakeb, Kallyn, Lexy and Macey.
Johnson promoted to agency/support service vice president
Larry Johnson, CPCU, AIC, AIM, AAI, has been promoted to vice president of agency/support services. He has been with North Star since 1995 and was the manager of agency/support services. Johnson and his wife, Sharon, live in Cottonwood and have a daughter, Josie.
Jahn promoted to property/casualty claims manager
Chuck Jahn, CPCU, AIC, AIS, AIT, is being promoted effective June 24 to manager of property/casualty claims with oversight of the field staff. Jahn is currently assistant manager and has been with North Star since 1999. He and his wife, Beth, live near Montevideo with their twin daughters: Annelise and Karina.
Wolf promoted to property/casualty claims manager
Mark Wolf is being promoted effective June 24 to manager of property/casualty claims with oversight of the in-office staff. Mark is currently assistant manager. He started with North Star in 2011 and previously worked for Farmers Alliance Mutual in Kansas. His two grown daughters, Addison and Hollister, live in Kansas.
Doose promoted to auto claims manager
Brian Doose, CPCU, AU, AIS, ARM, has been promoted to manager of auto claims. He was assistant manager and has been with North Star since 1991 after a couple years of part time employment. Doose and his wife, Lianne, live in Wood Lake with their sons Zach, Dustin and Cody.
