Lake Benton gears up for Saddle Horse Holiday
Lake Benton is starting the Saddle Horse Holiday today and continuing until Sunday. The town is busy in preparation for the summer celebration.
“The hidden horseshoe contest kicks off the whole week, and many people look forward to it,” said Dan Kuss, the president of the Lake Benton Chamber of Commerce.
Thursday evening will be the crowning of Miss Lake Benton.
On Friday, the events really kick into gear with a bike rodeo at 1 p.m. on Center Street.
“The Lake Benton Volunteers for Education will be addressing safety issues to the kids. The Lincoln County sheriff will be there to give safety tips. Then, the kids can ride their bikes through a course,” said Kuss.
Also, there is a hot dog feed, pork chop feed, drive-in movie night and a disco.
On Saturday, there will be many events going on, including the Iron Horse Poker Run from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. This is an annual tradition for the Saddle Horse Holiday.
“All day Saturday there will be a bunch of activities for little kids on Center Street,” Kuss said.
A cowboy church service will start off the festivities on Sunday.
“All denominations are welcome. There will be country music and cowboy attire,” Kuss said.
At noon, the 67th Annual Saddle Horse Parade begins.
“There are between 50 and 75 units in the parade, maybe more. Also, those who participate in the trail ride end up right behind the units and walk through. There are anywhere between 100 and 250 horses,” Kuss said.
“A lot of people come back to Lake Benton for our celebration year after year,” Kuss added. “Everyone is welcome and there will be things for the whole family.”
