Watertown takes down Marshall Blue, 11-3

Filling in for Cold Spring at the US Bank Mid-Summer Classic Legion wood bat tournament in Marshall, the Marshall VFW Blue team got a tough taste of the next level.

Blue opened play for the annual wood bat tournament at Legion Field and were stung for 11 runs off of 14 hits in a 11-3 loss to Watertown (S.D.) Legion in six innings.

Scott Buss took the loss for Blue, working 4 2/3 innings. Rusty Swanson entered in the fifth in relief, allowing the game ending run in the sixth.

Marshall Blue slapped nine hits of their own off of Watertown starter Connor Fransen, who picked up the win.

Derek Rasmussen was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, while Jack Bock and Conner Winkelman also batted 2-for-3 in the game. Winkelman scored once and drove in a run, while Bock had a lone RBI.

Blue will be back in action for two games at the wood bat tournament today, taking on Albany at 9 a.m. at Southwest Minnesota State’s Alumni Field and Metro Fargo at 6 p.m.
