Worthington 11, Marshall Orange 1
The Worthington VFW baseball team struck early and often in an 11-1 victory over Marshall VFW Orange Monday in Wilmont. Worthington plated 11 runs off of 11 hits and three Orange errors in the six-inning contest.
John Botsford started on the mound for Marshall, lasting just three innings after giving up seven runs. Justin Mettling tossed the only shutout inning for Orange in the fourth, but exited after allowing two runs in the fifth. Blaise Andries pitched the final 2/3 of an inning for Orange, as Worthington scored two runs to take a 10-run advantage and draw the game to a close.
Oscar Wolymer tossed four scoreless innings for Worthington, picking up the win. Nick Russell allowed the lone Marshall run in the fifth, before closing the door on Orange with a shutout sixth inning.
Roque Soto, Nathan Braaksma and Trevor Wietzma each belted doubles for Worthington.
Though Orange had just six hits, Nick Fosvick and Matt VanKeulen had strong nights at the plate. The duo had a pair of hits each.
Orange (2-3 overall) returns to action tonight for a doubleheader with Tyler in Marshall. First pitch of the twin bill is slated for 5:30 p.m. at Legion Field.

Sacred Heart 8, Tyler 7
The Tyler VFW baseball team didn’t have an answer for Sacred Heart’s run in the top of the ninth and lost an extra-inning game 8-7 Monday in Tyler.
Tyler did all of its scoring in two innings, putting up four runs in the second and three in the fifth.
Brent Wiering went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Tyler offense. Jared Baartman went 1-for-1, walked twice and drove in a pair of runs.
Tyler (1-4 overall) will try to bounce back today with a doubleheader against Marshall Orange in Marshall.

Sacred Heart 16, Minneota 7
Sacred Heart scored 16 runs off of 14 hits and three Minneota errors to earn a 16-7 victory in Legion baseball action Monday in Minneota.
Only one of Sacred Heart’s hits was for extra bases, as Carter Asche laced a double.
Minneota starter Austin Buysse took the loss after allowing nine runs over three innings. Alex Guttormsson pitched the final four innings in relief.
Caleb Melin picked up the win on the mound for Sacred Heart, striking out five and walking five over four innings. Griffin Schaub allowed four runs, all in the fifth, during three innings of relief for the visitors.
Buysse had two hits, including a double, for Minneota, while Andrew Swanson and Alec Engler each drove in a run.
Minneota falls to 0-2 on the season and hosts Montevideo in its next contest on Thursday.
