ST. LEO – Mass of Christian Burial for Randy DeVos, 56, of St. Leo will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Leo Catholic Church in St. Leo. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Birk Funeral Home in Canby, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to mass at the church. Burial will be in the St. Leo Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Leo Catholic Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund or Hope Lodge House, 411 Second St. NW, Rochester, MN 55901.
He died Thursday, June 27, 2013, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., after being diagnosed with kidney cancer in October 2011.
Randall Dean DeVos was born Oct. 26, 1956, in Canby, the son of Arnold and Trevis (Anderson) DeVos. He was baptized, received 1st communion and confirmed at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Minneota. In 1975, Randy graduated from Canby High School and started trucking fulltime for Arnold DeVos Trucking.
Randy was united in marriage to Mary Kack on June 14, 1980, at St. Leo Catholic Church. In 1990, Randy became self-employed and started Randy DeVos Trucking. He hauled grain and livestock throughout the Upper Midwest. Randy was a retired member of the St. Leo Fire Department after 26 years of service. He was also a member of the St. Leo’s Men’s Club, St. Leo City Council and the St. Leo Catholic Church.
Randy enjoyed riding his Harley, going on trips to the Black Hills, watching the Minnesota Twins and attended local dirt track races. Randy enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared Randy’s life is his loving wife of 33 years, Mary of St. Leo; his children, Ryan (Kerri) DeVos and Crystal (Brian) McKeen, both of Canby; grandchildren, Kallie and Tyler DeVos and Alexis McKeen; his father, Arnold of Taunton; father and mother-in-law, LeRoy (Audrey) Kack of St. Leo; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charlotte (Bob) Pohlen, Rick Kack, Bruce (Carol) Kack, Bill (Jill) Kack, Jackie (Ron) Eischens, Todd (Julie) Kack, Robin (David) Johnson; family friend, Mack Davis and many nieces, nephews, cousins and his beloved cat, Frankie.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Trevis DeVos; sister, Diane DeVos; brother, Roger DeVos; paternal and maternal grandparents.
