Hoffman leads Luverne VFW team to 5-2 win over Tyler

Connor Hoffman was 3-for-4 with two doubles and tossed five innings on the mound to lead the Luverne VFW team to a 5-2 win over Tyler Thursday in Tyler.

Tyler was held to five hits in the game. Dain LaRock finished 3-for-4, while Ross Johnson was 1-for-1.

Levi Hurst tossed a complete game for Tyler and took the loss. He struck out three batters, walked three batters and surrendered eight hits.

Tyler completes the regular season with a 7-7 record and will play a home playoff game Monday, with the opponent to be determined.

Slayton VFW team uses middle innings top Tracy

Seven runs over the fourth and fifth innings pushed Slayton VFW past Tracy 8-4 Thursday night in Slayton.

Slayton trailed 2-1 after three complete, but struck for three runs in the fourth and added four more in its next turn to bat.

Jordan Ahlers was 2-for-2 for Slayton and also picked up the win in relief. Ahlers entered in the third inning for Landon Like and held Tracy to two runs over the final five innings. Garrett Johnson was 2-for-4 for Slayton as well.

Tracy had just two hits in the game, as Tanner Phelps and Riley Steffes each finished 1-for-3. Steffes drove in two of the four Tracy runs in the game, while taking a no-decision after 3 1/3 innings pitched. Spencer Smith replaced Steffes on the bump in the fourth and ultimately took the loss. Austin Gleis pitched a shutout sixth inning for Tracy.

Now at 5-5 on the year, Tracy returns to action tonight against Olivia in Bird Island.
