Open your doors to a student
To the editor:
AFS (the American Field Service) is accepting applications for host families. If you have room in the your home and love in your hearts for teenagers, combined with a desire to give into their lives, curiosity about other cultures, up for a relational adventure of a lifetime, hosting with AFS may be just what you are looking for to be a blessing and to be blessed.
Our family has hosted a number of times at various stages in our lives, starting when our oldest son was 2. Hosting AFS students has been one of the biggest blessings in our lives.
It has shaped who our kids are today in a very positive manner.
Places and world geography has become people. People with diverse talents, with families back home who care about their teenagers and the successes they have in the lives while in the U.S., as well as the successes in our lives, people with interesting habits and different ways to approach life’s problems/issues.
Places of the world have become extended family, grandchildren, people whom we care about immensely and who equally care about us.
If your family is interested in an experience of a lifetime, now is the time to complete an application, begin thinking about potential students who would fit into your family, getting ready for the August travel.
To begin the application process or for more information about hosting, contact our local staff, Tanya Backstrom, at TBackstrom@afs.org, the web page www.afsusa.org/hostfamily, or local chapter members Jaci and Joe Garvey, Cindy Bader, Lois Johnson or Karla Adams.
