Area baseball roundup
Madison 1, Cottonwood 0
With two teams locked in a pitchers’ duel Thursday night, it was Cottonwood that was first to crack in a 1-0 loss to Madison in a District 7 Division II playoff Legion baseball game in Madison.
That crack didn’t come until the bottom of the seventh. Cottonwood pitcher Bayley Enstad and Madison pitcher Colby Siegert threw six straight scoreless innings. Siegert had one more clean frame left in him, but Enstad and Cottonwood were unable to keep Madison off the board.
The winning run scored when Cottonwood’s first baseman threw across the diamond to try to get an out at third, but the third baseman and the Madison baserunner bumped into each other and the ball rolled away, allowing the runner enough time to dash home.
Enstad finished the game with four strikeouts and gave up three hits and three walks. Cottonwood had just two hits in the game, one by Brad Boerboom and the other by Wyatt Schuster.
Cottonwood drops to the losers’ bracket of the tournament and will play Saturday at noon in Minneota.
