‘Iron Will’ movie items, sled dogs to be featured in Lincoln County

The 2013 Lincoln County Fair is coming to Tyler starting today and will bring with it some new attractions.

One of the new draws this year comes courtesy of a family that owns a dog kennel and will be bringing in some sled dogs for the public to see. They will also bring with them props from the 1994 sled dog movie “Iron Will.”

“I think that’s really going to be an interesting attraction,” said Lincoln County Fair Board Secretary Curt Madsen. “We also have six individuals from the arts school in Milan coming Saturday to put on some demonstrations about rosemalling and chip carving; they’ll be making straw brooms, doing silversmithing, things like that.”

An interactive clown show will take place Saturday afternoon as well, Madsen said. Buster the Magical Clown will be at the outdoor stage at 2 and 4 p.m.

There will be carnival wristband times today, Friday and Saturday. They are four hour sessions that allow unlimited rides for the allotted times. There are only a limited number of wristbands available at a discounted rate, so you want to get them early.

At 7 p.m. today, there will be a 4-H fashion revue and 2013 Outstanding Senior Volunteer event at the grandstand with no admission.

Yvonne Cory will be available on Friday for free make and take projects from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Horseshoe building.

Also on Friday night, there will be Starfire performing ’50s and ’60s rock music for free at the outdoor stage.

Saturday morning starts off with the Centennial Farm presentations, including Paul Whingelby’s family farm.

There will be a ranch rodeo in the horse arena at 1 p.m. It is required that you bring your own lawn chair.

The Milan School of Art will be giving presentations in the Horseshoe building Saturday afternoon and evening. There will be hands-on crafts for people of all ages.

There will be musical entertainment all evening starting with the Old Time Fiddlers at 3 p.m. and ending with the Larry Olsen Band.

Things wrap up Sunday with the annual demolition derby at 3 p.m. at the grandstand. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for anyone 12 and under. Pit admission for those 16 and older is $15.
