Long Sox launch themselves into state tourney

Johnny Pistulka was 4-for-5 at the plate, including a double and a triple, and drove in three runs to help the Lamberton Long Sox clinch a spot in the the Minnesota Class C amateur baseball state tournament. Pistulka also tossed two innings for Lamberton on Tuesday, picking up a six-out save as the Long Sox held off Stark 11-9 in the Region 2C playoffs in Lamberton.

The two teams combined for 26 hits in the game, with Colby Pack accounting for three of Lamberton’s 11 base hits on a 3-for-4 evening with three RBIs.

Sam Carlson, a draftee from St. James, picked up the win for Lamberton after throwing just one inning. He relieved Dylan Bunting for the seventh inning, though Bunting entered in the third in place of starter Jacob Jenniges.

David Surprenant took the loss for Stark, though Colton Petron started for the Longhorns.

The Long Sox are back in action in the Region 2C playoffs tonight, as they host the New Ulm Brewers in Lamberton, though their spot in the state tournament is already secured.
