SLAYTON – Services for Kenneth Lloyd Onken, 86, of Slayton are at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Slayton. Burial is at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton. Military honors accorded by the Lake Wilson American Legion Post and the Slayton VFW Post. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Preschool in Slayton or Our House Hospice Home in Slayton.
He died Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
He was born Nov. 24, 1926, in Slayton, to Herman and Irene Staples Onken. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on Jan. 28, 1944, and served in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged Dec. 17, 1946.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; children, Steve of Fargo, N.D., Laurie Marks of Glenwood, Bradley of Morgantown, W.V., Julie Billison of Albuquerque, N.M., and David of Hadley; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; brother, Les “Birdie” of Chicago, Ill.; and step siblings, Ruth of Carlyle, Ill., John of Elgin, Ill., Mark of Papua, New Guinea, Lois Pigg of Shattuck, Ill., and Luke of San Antonio, Texas.
