Gun fired during police interview

Local authorities are investigating how a suspect was able to pull a gun during a police interview Tuesday, reportedly leading to a struggle and discharge of the weapon.

According to the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office, agents from the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation were in Minnesota to question a man at a Clarkfield residence regarding an ongoing investigation.

Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s deputies were providing security assistance when, during the interview, the person being interviewed produced a handgun. Officers struggled with the person, and the weapon went off.

The sheriff’s office says the gun and scene were secured by assisting officers.

No one was injured during the struggle.
