Heat causes prep game postponements

High temps and high humidity on Monday caused the postponement of early season action for two Marshall High School sports, while an expected high of 96 degrees and a heat index of 105 have forced the postponement of today’s Marshall soccer opener.

Instead the Tigers will wait until Sept. 10 to play their first home game at the Schwan Regional Event Center. The Tigers were set to open their home slate today against the Willmar Cardinals, but that game has been rescheduled for Sept. 16.

Marshall girls tennis had a triangular set for Monday in New Ulm, but the late summer heat wave forced its postponement.

Meanwhile, both the Marshall boys and girls cross country teams were supposed to open their 2013 seasons at Morris Area on Monday, but were postponed instead.

Neither the tennis triangular nor the cross country meet in Morris had yet to be rescheduled.

As a result, Marshall soccer will be back in action on Sept. 3 for a road game against Worthington, Marshall tennis hosts Yellow Medicine East for its first home match of the year, and the boys and girls cross country teams will open their season at Monticello on Sept. 5.
