CALMAR, Iowa – Mass of Christian Burial for Jared Timp, 34, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., was Sept. 5 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, Iowa. Burial was in Memory Hill Gardens, Tuscaloosa, Ala. Arrangements by Schluter Balik Funeral Home, Calmar, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Jared Timp Memorial Fund, 1602 Apple Valley Court, Columbia, Mo., 65202.
Jared died Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, surrounded by his family.
Jared Joseph Timp was born Sept. 19, 1978, to Gary and Mary Sue (Lenz) Timp, Marshall. Jared attended grade school in Minneota and graduated from Clopton High School in Clarksville, Mo. Jared served in the U.S. Coast Guard. After graduating from the police academy in 2005, Jared began his career as a police officer in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Four years later, in 2009, he was deployed to Iraq with the Alabama National Guard, along with his best friend, Jared Olvey. During his overseas tour, his son Magnus was born. When he returned home, he resumed his position as a Tuscaloosa police officer, was on the SWAT Team, and worked in the Crime Suppression Unit. Jared enjoyed fishing with his son and remodeling his home. His greatest joy was being a father to his son, Magnus.
Jared is survived by his son: Magnus Timp, Alabama. His mother: Mary Sue (and John) Leake, Columbia, Mo. His father: Gary W. Timp, Decorah, Iowa. Siblings: Gabriel Timp, Cottage Grove; Rachel Timp, Minnetonka; Andrew (and Jenna) Timp, West Plains, Mo.; and Caleb (and Melissa Simmons) Timp, Decorah, Iowa. His grandmothers: Esther Timp, Decorah and Marjorie Lenz, Marshall. Aunts and uncles: Nancy (and Marv) Pankow, Decorah; Myra (and Jerry) Crow, Bloomington; Patricia (and Frank) Graves, Decorah; Linda Peterson, Decorah; Kevin (and Nancy) Timp, Calmar, Iowa; Sandy (and Kim) Meyer, Castalia, Iowa; Dave (and Kris) Timp, Spillville, Iowa; Lisa (and Brian) Bram, Eagan; Mark Lenz, Marshall; Marcia (and Bob) Giese, Clearfield, Utah; and David (and Cynthia) Lenz, Apple Valley; along with many cousins.
Jared was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Lawrence Timp and Robert Lenz.
