PREP TENNIS: Luverne sweeps Marshall netters
LUVERNE – The Marshall High School girls tennis team fell 7-0 during a Southwest Conference dual Tuesday at Luverne.
In singles competition, Paige Adams defeated Jenna Gannott 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1, Kynzie Smedsrud topped Crista Schulke 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2, McKenzi Wenninger blanked Linnea Bader 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 and Samantha Pierce shut out Sara Schroeder 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.
In doubles competition, Danielle Kneip and Lexi Severtson edged Brittany Soupir and Rachel Landmark 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1, Brianna Erickson and Tatiana Gust upended Meghan Naughton and Tori St. Aubin
6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 and Emily Wendland and Joci Oye defeated Rafa Holouka and Cheyenne DeMuth 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3.
Two extra doubles matches were played and both were won by the Cardinals. In the first, Kayla Rud and Sierra Wienely knocked off Amy Harrison and Katherine Roseland 6-2, 6-4. In the second, Lexi Heinrichs and Emilie Bartels used a 7-2 tiebreaker to get past Kaylee Hoflock and Katie Ewing.
Marshall is 0-9 overall and 0-1 against the Southwest Conference. The Tigers host Worthington in a league dual today.
