PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Soph. Herding reaches 1,000

Westbrook-Walnut Grove swept Hills-Beaver Creek 25-13, 25-23, 25-8 on Thursday night.

In the second set, sophomore Abby Herding achieved her 1,000th set assist to teammate Dayna Comnick.

“I love this moment,” Herding said, “It’s crazy since I am so young, but I could never have done it without my teammates.”

Herding ended up with 28 assists and 11 digs on the night.

Right before Herding posted her 1,000th assist, she said Comnick whispered to her on the court, “I want to help you make history.”

Herding said she wants to return that favor to Comnick, who, this season, is approaching 1,000 kills for her varsity career.

The kills leader for Chargers was Comnick with 13. She added 11 digs.

Westbrook-Walnut Grove will travel to the Jackson County Central Tournament on Saturday.

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton quickly dispatched Lac qui Parle Valley in Camden Conference volleyball action Thursday, sweeping the Eagles 25-6, 25-5, 25-11.

The Panthers served aggressively throughout the entire match, with the effort led by Gabbie Gervais, who was 20-for-21 with five aces. Anna Peterson also went 18-for-18 with four ace serves, while Sara Stoneberg was 17-for-17 with four aces.

Kassidy Przymus pounded down 11 kills for TMB, while Jessie Nelson contributed nine kills and three ace blocks. Sydney Lanoue recorded seven kills and was 12-for-12 serving with two aces.

Peterson anchored the defensive with 15 digs, while Sammie Gervais collected nine and Przymus seven. Gabbie Gervais added 30 set assists.

The Panthers (8-2 overall, 3-0 Camden) will face Dawson-Boyd on the road Tuesday.

MACCRAY improved to 3-1 in the Camden Conference after defeating Lakeview in three sets 25-11, 25-15, 25-20.

MACCRAY’s Aleah Schwitters stunned the Lakers with 30 assists, eight digs and one ace. Brooklyn Gould contributed 13 digs and 12 kills in the victory.

Makana Barker handed-out 15 assists, 6 digs and went 11-for-11 with two aces for Lakeview. Brianna Hoffman knocked-down 10 kills and went 10-for-11 serving with one ace.

Lakeview will participate in the Montevideo Tournament Saturday. While MACCRAY will resume play Monday against Marshall.

The Yellow Medicine East volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City in West Central Confernce action Thursday night in Granite Falls.

Chyanne Sand led the offensive and defensive effort for the Sting, recording 10 kills and five ace blocks, while Jordan Hinz had seven kills and Hailey Enstad five.

Madison Hagert was solid at the serving line, going 16-for-16 with three aces for YME. Enstad was also 14-for-15 with three aces, while Hinz was 9-for-9 with three aces. Hagert also contributed a team-high nine digs, while Megan Odegard had eight.

The Sting (2-10, 2-3 West Central) will host Benson on Monday.

The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Knights swept the Canby Lancers in Camden Conference volleyball action Thursday in Tyler.

Destinee Strand had a solid night, contributing 19 set assists and eight digs while going 10-for-11 with two aces at the serving line for the Knights. Anna Madsen tallied 11 digs, while Justine Possail pounded down seven kills. Janel Wichern chipped in six kills and eight digs, while Dana Schaefer and Amanda Petersen added four blocks apiece.

Canby (2-8 overall, 1-3 Camden) plays host to Renville County West on Tuesday while RTR (7-4 overall, 4-0 Camden) is back in action on the road Tuesday against Central Minnesota Christian.

It took four sets, but the Murray County Central Rebels finally downed Mountain Lake Area in Red Rock Conference action Thursday in Mountain Lake.

Kristi Bose led the Rebels with 19 kills, 23 digs and four ace blocks, while Lindsey Barritt chipped in with 11 kills and two ace blocks. Bose also went 21-for-21 with three aces behind the serving line. Jade Giese was 19-for-19 with three aces in addition to recording 14 set assists, while Paris Thomas collected 20 set assists. Libero Hannah Schmidt added 18 digs.

MCC (4-1 overall, 2-0 Red Rock) will continue Red Rock Conference action Tuesday when the team hits the road to take on Edgerton.
