NCAA GOLF: SMSU finishes ninth at invitational
LAKE ELMO – The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s golf team moved up two spots in the final round on Monday and finished in a tie for ninth place at the 15-team Concordia-St. Paul Invite at Tartan Park Golf Course in Lake Elmo.
SMSU shot a 345 (+58) on Monday and finished with a two-round total of 687 to tie with Missouri Western. Central Oklahoma won the team with a team score of 608 (+32), 23 shots ahead of second place Augustana.
Dana Wagner led SMSU on Monday with a 9-over 81 and finished tied for 29th with a 23-over 167. Marissa Campeau carded an 11-over 83 on Monday and tied for 37th overall with a 25-over 169. Rachel Patnoe – who led SMSU on Sunday with an 83 shot a 91 on Monday and tied for 50th at 30-over 174. Abby Gruber finished 55th overall at 33-over 177, following a round of 90 today, while Becky Koepp tied for 83rd overall with a 192.
Trisha Kienitz and Megan Will both played as individuals during the 36-hole invite. Kienitz shot a 91 on Monday to tie for 63rd overall at 180, while Will also shot a 91 on Monday and tied for 66th at 181.
Bethany Darrough from Central Oklahoma earned medalist honors with a 2-over-par 146, winning the title by five shots over teammate Taylor Neidy.
Southwest Minnesota State returns to action this weekend hosting the annual 13-team Mustang Invite on Saturday and Sunday at the Marshall Golf Club.
