PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Willmar bests Tigers in pool

WILLMAR – Marshall won seven events and placed second in four more races during a dual swimming loss at Willmar 109-76 on Monday.

Ashley Dunn (200 freestyle, 2:08.03; 100 backstroke, 1:06.59) and Kylie Vermeire (50 freestyle, 26.13 seconds; 100 freestyle, 56.89) each won two individual events.

Dunn and Vermeire teamed with Elizabeth Roseland and Abby Blanchette to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:47.95 and to become the runners-up in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:00.15.

Kami Love scored 146.50 points to win the diving competition Monday. On Saturday, she placed scored 238 points to earn seventh among 24 divers at the North Dakota Swimming and Diving Festival in Grand Forks, N.D.

Blythe Bell added an individual victory for MHS in the 500 freestyle in 6:10.16.

Blanchette added second-place effortd in the 200 individual medley (2:28.38) and the 100 breaststroke (1:16.93). Kelsey Pieschke was the runner-up in the 100 butterfly (1:16.840).

Willmar won the junior varsity meet 106-57 as Marshall’s Sabrina Perrault (200 freestyle), Tamia Hedlin (200 individual medley) and Rayne Holien (500 freestyle) captured individual event victories.

WILLMAR – The Marshall girls tennis team fell in a non-conference match at Willmar on Monday.

The Tigers’ Rachel Landmark and Brittany Soupir won the No. 1 doubles contest 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 against Caroline Bell and Sydney Fischer.

Marshall lost all of its other contests.

Amelia Amon and Claire Schmitz defeated Rafa Holouka and Cheyenne DeMuth 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Kaylee Chester and Erica Ellingson topped Linnea Bader and Sara Schroeder 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles action. Cayle Hovland turned back Jenna Gannott 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1; Hannah Hansen shut out Tori St. Aubin 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2; Bailey Hovland bested Crista Schultze at No. 3; and Bergan Vollan stopped Meghan Naughton 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4.


Sioux Falls Lincoln 44, Marshall 22

SIOUX FALLS – Matt Thompson, Nick Saugstad and Nick Fosvick scored touchdowns as Marshall dropped a junior varsity football game against Sioux Falls Lincoln on Monday.

Thompson scored after making a 4-yard run to the end zone in the first quarter. Aaron Polejewski’s 2-point conversion pass was caught by Saugstad.

In the second quarter, Saugstad busted an 80-yard run for a touchdown. Jacob Deines passed to Noah Henle for a 2-point conversion.

In the fourth quarter, Polejewski threw an 8-yard TD strike to Fosvick, but the Tigers’ 2-point conversion pass failed.

Marshall is 1-3 overall at the junior varsity level. The Tigers play at Watertown, S.D., next Monday.
