MINNEOTA – Services for Violet Vandevoorde 95, of Minneota, formerly of Marshall, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church of Marshall. Visitation is from 6:30-8 p.m. today at Rehkamp-Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation continues from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Burial is in the Cottonwood Cemetery, Cottonwood.
She died Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at the Minneota Manor in Minneota.
Violet Verna (Villmow) Vandevoorde was born May 19, 1918, on the family farm near Delmont, S.D., to Carl and Johanna (Koth) Villmow. She was baptized and confirmed at the Congregational Church in Parkston, S.D. On Oct. 14, 1945, Violet was united in marriage to Archie Vandevoorde at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall. The couple made their home in Marshall and Violet worked at jobs including as a waitress, for Swifts, Weiners and at West Side Elementary. Violet enjoyed gardening, drawing, especially horses, and painting country scenes with lots of wildlife. For the last 12 years, Violet has been living at the Minneota Manor.
Survivors include daughters, Shirley Vandevoorde of Marshall, Debbie (and Brian) Waller of Granite Falls; grandchildren, Nathan Waller of Hastings and Jon (and Jenny) Waller of Granite Falls; great-grandchildren, Charlie and twins Laila and Layton, nieces; nephews; relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Archie and siblings, Lillian, Lawrence, Nelda and Jane.
