NCAA WOMEN’S SOCCER: Requejo named NSIC’s Player of Week
BURNSVILLE – Southwest Minnesota State University soccer player Danica Requejo has been named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her performance versus St. Cloud State and Minnesota-Duluth.
The announcement came from the NSIC office on Monday.
Requejo, a native of Yucaipa, Calif., added 180 minutes of defensive effort to help No. 18 Southwest Minnesota State shutout two more NSIC opponents. She has now played every minute of SMSU’s eight games.
Requejo has been a key cog in the SMSU defense extending its scoreless streak to 389 consecutive minutes. She was part of a defense last weekend that limited St. Cloud State and Minnesota-Duluth to 22 total shots and four corner kicks, including zero coming in the second half of each game.
The last time the Mustangs gave up a goal was Sept. 13 versus Lindenwood, Mo.
It is the first time Requejo has been named NSIC Player of the Week and she becomes the third Mustang to earn the honor. Megan Kilroy and Brienna Dehkes were named NSIC Players of the Week last week.
Minnesota State’s Korey Kronforst was named NSIC Offensive Player of the Week, while Upper Iowa’s Kaitlyn Emanuel grabbed NSIC Goalkeeper of the Week.
No. 18 SMSU (8-0, 5-0 NSIC) heads north for weekend games versus Bemidji State and Minnesota-Crookston.
