PREP FOOTBALL: Lightning strikes twice; Tigers roll

REDWOOD FALLS – Despite a lightning delay for the second straight week, the Marshall football team came away victorious, defeating Redwood Valley 28-7 on Friday night.

“It’s hard to stay at your peak when you have a 45-minute delay,” said Marshall head coach Brad Bahlmann.

The Tigers had strong rushing performances from Brad Bahlmann and Jack Bock, who each had 16 carries and finished with 133 and 132 yards, respectively.

After botching two snaps on the first drive, Marshall came back and scored at the end of the first quarter when Sam Marshall when five yards for the score.

“We were able to get back into our base formation,” Bahlmann said. “I thought Jack Bock and our offensive line did a nice job of establishing the game. Jack really stepped up and ran hard. He was a big key for us.”

Bahlmann broke away early in the second for a 70-yard touchdown, then connected with Tim Amick for the two point conversion, and the Tigers took a 14-0 lead into the half.

“In the second quarter Brad broke the big one and gave us some momentum going into halftime,” said Bahlmann. “

Marshall struck twice more in the third quarter when Bock went 1 yard at 7:46 and Bahlmann scored his second of the night, a three-yard run at 1:51. Paul Citrowske added an extra point after each score, giving Marshall a 28-0 lead.

“(At halftime) we cleaned up some things on offense,” Bahlmann said. “In the third quarter I thought we really ran the ball well again.”

The Cardinals (2-5, 1-4 SWC) scored their lone touchdown, a 53-yard pass late in the fourth quarter, but were unable to do anymore damage, as the Tigers took the 28-7 win.

Marshall (4-3, 4-1 SWC) will play host to Windom Area at Mattke Field at the Schwan Regional Event Center at Southwest Minnesota State University on Wednesday to finish out the regular season.

“We’re hoping we built some momentum,” said Bahlmann. “We scratched and clawed to get back over .500, and now we want to get better and build some momentum for the playoffs.”
