John C. Louwagie

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Mass of Christian Burial for John Louwagie, 65, of Sioux Falls, S.D., was Monday at St. Michael Catholic Church. Burial was in St. Michael Cemetery.

He died Oct. 11, 2013, at the Heart Hospital of South Dakota.

John C. Louwagie was born Nov. 18, 1947, in Marshall to Charles and Carole (Christopherson) Louwagie. He grew up on a farm near Marshall and attended Central Catholic School. He was a member of the National Guard for many years.

In 1970, he was united in marriage with JoAnn Maddigan in Marshall. The couple farmed northeast of Marshall until 1973 when they moved to Gary, S.D. John enjoyed farming and particularly enjoyed working with the livestock. He retired in 2005 and the couple moved to Sioux Falls. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards, enjoyed a good game of billiards, and attending his children’s sporting activities.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; his daughter, Stephanie (Steve) Heil and their children Zachary, Jaren and Lincoln, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; his sons, Chris (Vikki) Louwagie and their children, Kiernan and Kohen of Arlington, Cory (Heidi) Louwagie and their children, Addison and Logan, of Brooklyn Park, Shane Louwagie of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Scott (Brandy) Louwagie, also of Sioux Falls. He is also survived by his brothers, Larry, Steven, Kevin, Bernard and Michael, and his sisters, Linda, Lois, Elaine and Susan; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Leroy.
