LYND – Services for Gloria B. Kjorness, 94, of Lynd will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota. A time for remembering and refreshments will take place after the service. Burial will be at a later date at Hope Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
She died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, in Lynd.
Gloria Blanche was born Sept. 5, 1919, in Eidsvold Township near Minneota to John and Emma (Hansen) Wigness. She and Elmer Meade of Canby were married Nov. 11, 1938, in Minneota. They had one daughter, Nancy Deanne. Elmer died in 1943. Gloria attended secretarial school in Minneapolis and worked as a secretary in a law office. Other jobs over the years included working at Pearson’s Candy in St. Paul and Henle Printing in Marshall. She and Robert F. Kjorness were married Jan. 1, 1945, in Mississippi. They lived in Minneota, Willmar, St. Paul and Lynd and were married for 55 years before Rob died in 2000. Gloria loved to go dancing in her younger days and also play cards with her family, relatives and friends. She was a wiz at cribbage, Scrabble and crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. She was a great cook; her family loved her cinnamon rolls, lefse, rhubarb pie, vinatarte and tomato juice with tomatoes from the garden. Gloria loved taking care of and being entertained by her grandchildren. She never said an unkind word about anyone.
Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Swenson of Golden Valley, Dorene Obi of Minneapolis, Janel Kjorness of Tyler, Robin (and John) Chandler of Excelsior and Karin (and Robert) Elton of Lynd; grandchildren, Jeff (and Laura) Swenson of Windsor, Conn., Mark Swenson of San Francisco, Calif., Kristin Obi and Shawn Obi of Los Angeles, Calif., Adrian Kjorness of Minneapolis, Jacob Elton of Lynd, Cheyenne Elton of Marshall and Vanessa Elton of Lynd, Caitlin Chandler and Robbie Chandler of Minneapolis; great-grandchildren, Amanda Swenson of Arlington, Va., and Molly Swenson of Minneapolis, Autumn Bercier of Fargo, N.D., and Aubrianna Elton of Marshall; brothers Arby Wigness of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Marc Wignes of Marshall; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Elmer and Robert; sister Vivian Krohling; brothers Warren, Orville and Donald; sisters-in-law, Lorene Williams, Marian Wigness, Joyce Wigness and Marion Wignes; brothers-in-law, Everett “Duke” Kjorness and Leon “Bate” Krohling; and son-in-law, Bryan Swenson.
