NCAA CROSS COUNTRY: Smith, Grengs run first for Mustangs
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Trent Smith crossed the finish line first for Southwest Minnesota State in 69th place to lead the Mustang men’s cross country team to a 20th place finish at the NCAA Central Region Championships on Saturday.
Amanda Grengs crossed first on the women’s side with a time of 24:00 good for a 122nd finish. The women finished 29th in the 30-team field.
The SMSU women collected a total time of 2:08:03 for 829 points.
The SMSU men collected a total time of 2:58:21 for 558 points. The Mustangs finished ahead of three fellow Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schools – Minot State, Northern State and Concordia-St. Paul.
Minnesota-Duluth women claimed the overall team championship with a total score of 72. University of Mary’s Jennifer Agnew won the women’s 6,000-meter race with total time of 20:26.
Augustana’s men’s team took the overall title with a score of 37. Augie’s Paul Yak won the men’s 10,000-meter race with a time of 31:13. Augustana placed two runners within the top five.
