Two children unaccounted for after house fire in Lucan
LUCAN – Two children are still unaccounted for following a residential blaze Wednesday afternoon in rural Lucan, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety said.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Fire Marshal Division is investigating the fire at the request of the Redwood County Sheriff’s Department. Firefighters from multiple agencies were still on the scene of the fire late Wednesday night, which was reported by the homeowners at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday, the DPS said. The two-story single family farmhouse was fully engulfed when the Lucan Fire Department arrived. Firefighters at the scene were unable to comment.
Two adults and several children were able to escape the residence without injury, the DPS said.
A Vesta Fire Department firefighter slipped on the ice and was injured on the scene. He was taken to the Redwood County Hospital in Redwood Falls, the DPS said. His condition is unknown, and his identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, the DPS said. Firefighters from Wabasso, Seaforth, Wanda, Vesta, Belview, Walnut Grove and Milroy, along with the Minnesota State Patrol, are assisting.
