Children killed in fire ID’d
MARSHALL – The two young victims of the Lucan house fire Wednesday have been identified. They are Hazel, 7, and Isaiah Thooft, 4.
The pair was unaccounted for after the blaze. One of the children was found Wednesday, the other a day later.
The fire was reported at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday at the Bernadette and Matthew Thooft family residence, located on 250th Street, about a mile-and-a-half east of Lucan.
The two-story, single family farmhouse was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, the Department of Public Safety said.
The cause of the fire, which was reported by the homeowners Wednesday afternoon, is still under investigation.
The United Way of Southwest Minnesota will serve as a Marshall drop off location for donations to benefit the Thooft family.
The office is located at 109 S. 5th St., Suite 300, Marshall, in the RLC office building. Donations of gift cards would be helpful for the purchase of clothing, food, gas and household supplies.
A fund has also been established at First Independent Bank of Lucan. Donations can also be made at other area First Independent Bank locations throughout the area.
