SLAYTON – A private funeral service for Donald Glen Vogelaar, 81, is planned with burial at Slayton Memorial Gardens in Slayton. Visitation will be on Sunday at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton from 3-5 p.m.
Don Vogelaar was born March 28, 1932, in Sibley, Iowa, to Tunis and Cora Van Duyn Vogelaar. He grew up near Sibley and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1950. Following high school Don moved to Currie with his family and farmed with his father. On July 10, 1962 he and Lucille “Lucy” Moret were married at the First Reformed Church in Slayton. Following their marriage they farm south of Slayton and raised their two children. Don retired in 1995 but they remained on the farm. On Dec. 10, 2013, Don entered Our House Hospice Home in Slayton where he went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013. He was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church in Slayton where he served as Deacon and Elder. He loved his Lord and his church. Don enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his five grandsons, farming, baseball and bowling.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Vogelaar of Slayton; two children and their spouses, Lisa and Scott Sinclair of White Bear Lake, and Jody and Janeen Vogelaar of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; five grandsons, Austin, Jordan and Taylor Sinclair, Greyson and Anders Vogelaar; one brother, Les Vogelaar and his wife, Gert of Worthington; and one sister, Carol DeKam of Leota.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Bill Vogelaar, one sister, Ann Kristofferson and her husband, Gus and brother-in-law, Duane DeKam.
