YOUTH HOCKEY: Marshall Bantam A takes third at Dakota Premier Classic
BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Marshall Bantam A boys hockey team placed third at the Dakota Premier Classic from Dec. 13-15.
Marshall began pool play with a 3-2 loss to Brookings. Jonathan Bell had both goals for the Tigers and Jackson Luther had an assist. Trey Nelson had 17 saves in the game.
The Tigers defeated Omaha, Neb., 2-1, in its second pool play game. Luther and Clay Stevens both had a goal and an assist in the game. Bell also had an assist. Nelson made 29 saves on 30 shots.
Marshall (7-4-0 overall) shut out Rushmore, S.D., 5-0, in the third-place game. The Tigers had a strong four-goal first period as Dawsyn Deutz scored off a pass from Mason Plante to hand Marshall a 1-0 lead.
Jackson Luther scored the Tigers second goal with an assist going to Bell. Plante produced the final two goals of the first period as assists went to Jack Boerboom, on the first tally, and Stevens, on the second.
Stevens had the final goal with an assist going to Boerboom.
Nelson made 17 saves in the game.
