GIRLS HOCKEY: Cardinals send Tigers to loss in Southwest

MARSHALL – A three-goal second period helped Luverne earn a 5-2 Southwest Conference victory against Marshall on Tuesday at Lockwood Motors Ice Arena.

The Cardinals (10-2-0 overall, 4-0-0 Southwest) received a pair of goals each from Mariah Aukes and Makayla Sterrett. Madisyn Dingman also scored for Luverne.

The game was a 1-1 tie after 17 minutes before the Cardinals took a 4-1 lead after two periods. Each team scored a goal in the final 17 minutes.

Names and statistics for the Tigers (4-7-1, 2-2-0) were not submitted.

Emilie Bartels was the winning goaltender after stopping 12 of 14 Marshall shots.

MHS plays Eveleth-Gilbert in a White Division quarterfinal Dec. 30 at the Schwan Cup in Blaine.
