GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Behrends leads MCC in defeat

MARSHALL – Morgan Behrends had a solid all-around game for Murray County Central, but Ortonville was able to come away with a 71-65 win in the Borch’s Sporting Goods Holiday Classic Friday at Southwest Minnesota State University.

Behrends posted a double-double with 24 points and 24 rebounds to lead the Rebels. She also recorded team highs in assists (three) and steals (four). Rebekah Nysetvold contributed 22 points and three assists, while Jade Giese added seven points.

Rachel Hoernemann led the Trojans with 30 points, while Hope Hasslen grabbed 16 rebounds.

Dawson-Boyd 67, Lakeview 55

REDWOOD FALLS – A big night for Katarina Kuhlman gave Dawson-Boyd the 67-55 win over Lakeview in the Redwood Valley Holiday Tournament semifinal round.

Kuhlman and teammate Justine Lee knocked-down 28 and 21 points, respectively. Kuhlman also added three assists and two blocked shots. Lee had five assists, four steals and two blocked shots.

The Lakers held a 29-25 lead at halftime but weren’t able to hold onto the victory. Brianna Hoffman contributed 13 points, eight rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals in the effort. Sadie Stelter had nine points while Brooklyn Hartle added 8.

Madi Nelson and Erin Stevens each tallied sevens points. Nelson also led the team with eight assists while Stevens had four and two steals.

Lakeview will play Sibley East today at 3:00 and the Blackjacks will face Redwood Valley at 4:30 p.m.


Canby 63, Maple River 32

ST. CLAIR – The Canby Lancers had four players with double-digit scoring en route to handing Maple River a 63-32 loss at the St. Clair Holiday Tournament Friday.

Ricki Kallhoff led the Lancers with 18 points, followed by Morgan Merritt (12), Natalie Dinius (11) and Brandi Merritt (10). Morgan Merritt also led the team in assists (five) and steals (five), while Kallhoff hauled down a team-high 14 rebounds.
