BOYS HOCKEY: Tigers place fourth at Schwan

BLAINE – Marshall finished fourth in the Schwan Cup Open Division Tournament after an 8-1 loss to Spring Lake Park on Saturday in the third place game.

The Panthers scored the first eight goals of the game before the Tigers’ Alex Buysse broke up the shutout with a second-period tally.

Spring Lake Park grabbed a 4-0 first-period lead on goals from Connor Gagon (14:37), Noah Borman (10:05), Dustin Aanerud (9:10) and David Taylor (6:31).

Brandon Richards (16:15), Taylor (12:57), Devin Sunnell (12:11) and Zach Benson (7:04) all scored for the Panthers in the second period.

Buysse sent a shot past Spring Lake Park goaltender J.T. Hirshi with 6:03 left in the second period. Casper Larsen assisted Buysse on the play.

Marshall goaltender Mason Campion stopped 18 of 26 shots in the Tigers’ loss. Hirshi had 12 saves on 13 Marshall shots.

The Tigers (4-7-0 overall) return to the ice Thursday for a Southwest Conference game at Luverne (12-0-1).
