PREP FOOTBALL ALL-AREA TEAM: Fourty-six players among area’s best
Austin Buysse, Minneota/LHI
Completed 149 of 227 passes for 2,162 yards with 33 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
Brett Swenhaugen, TMB
Completed 124 of 218 passes for 1,841 yards with 17 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Also ran for 883 yards and 10 TDs on the ground. Had 52 tackles on defense.
Neil Eichten, Wabasso
Completed 91 of 160 passes for 1,572 with 16 touchdowns and six interceptions. Also spent time as a defensive back with 30 tackles.
Dalton Palmer, Dawson-Boyd
Ran for 1,558 yards and scored 19 touchdowns to lead the area in rushing. Made 15 catches for 374 yards and five TDs. Also had 84 tackles as a middle linebacker.
Jeff Gladis, Minneota/Lincoln HI
Ran for 1,517 yards and scored 13 touchdowns.
Michael Anyasike, Dawson-Boyd
Despite playing with an injured hamstring for half of the season, he ran for 1,269 yards and scored 14 touchdowns. Also made 66 tackles as a middle linebacker.
Tanner Bock, Wabasso
Ran for 1,225 yards and scored 15 touchdowns. Made 103 tackles on defense to place third among area defenders.
Austin Vikander, Yellow Med. East
Ran for 879 yards and scored six touchdowns, threw for 102 yards and a TD and was a threat in YME’s return game on special teams.
Sam Marshall, Marshall
Ran for 736 and seven touchdowns, while adding 32 receptions for 394 yards and three touchdowns.
Michael Lee, Dawson Boyd
Led the area with 57 receptions for 956 yards and 13 touchdowns. Added four interceptions from his spot as a defensive back.
Sean McCroskey, WWG
Was second in the area with 42 receptions for 731 yards and seven touchdowns. Added one sack and one interception on defense.
T.J. Fulton, Wabasso
Hauled in 33 passes for 679 yards and six touchdowns, while running for 341 yards and six TDs. Made 65 tackles on defense and picked off one pass.
Zach Seaton, TMB
Had 39 receptions for 582 yards and six touchdowns. Also ran for 258 yards and one TD on the ground. Intercepted two passes as a defensive backs.
Michael Slaba, Canby
Made 25 catches for 328 yards and two touchdowns. As a runner, he piled up 897 yards with six rushing touchdowns. Finished with 33 tackles on defense.
Jordan Beck, Minneota/Lincoln HI
Caught 36 passes for 552 yards and 15 TDs. Had 55 tackles and 10.5 sacks on defense.
Noah Stelter, Dawson-Boyd
Received 21 passes for 388 yards and four touchdowns. On defense, he had 94 tackles and two interceptions.
Tyus DeBoer, Marshall
Earned All-Southwest Conference award for best offensive lineman in 2013. Helped the Tigers average 330 yards of total offense. Made 62 tackles as a defensive lineman.
Zach Stratmoen, Dawson-Boyd
One of five new starters on the Blackjacks’ offensive line who allowed Dawson-Boyd to average 395 yards of total offense.
Matthew Knutson, Minneota/LHI
Won the Little Sioux Conference award for this season’s best offensive lineman. Helped the Vikings’ offense compile an area-best 400 yards per game.
Alex Schroepfer, Wabasso
A physical presence on the Rabbits’ offensive line, he helped Wabasso compile 360 yards per game. On defense, he finished with 66 tackles, three sacks and one interception.
Tyler Schoborg, WWG
Helped the Westbrook-Walnut Grove offensive line as the Chargers averaged 325 yards per game. On defense, he made 98 tackles and 4.5 sacks.
Gavin Van Moer, TMB
Led the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton offensive line, as the Panthers averaged 350 yards and 27 points per game. On defense, he made 54 tackles and two fumble recoveries.
Daniel Harrison, Minneota/LHI
Made 61 tackles, 13.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries to spark the Vikings on defense.
Kenny Her, TMB
Came on late in the season to end up with 66 tackles, 8.5 sacks and one fumble recovery. Earned the Little Sioux Conference award for best defensive lineman in 2013.
Levi Bunting, WWG
Led all area pass-rushers with 14.5 sacks to go along with 76 tackles. As a tight end, he made 22 receptions for 247 yards and two touchdowns.
Matt Zeug, Wabasso
Contributed 63 tackles, four sacks and an interception to Wabasso’s defense. Also made an impact as an offensive lineman for the Rabbits.
Hunter Greve, Marshall
Played both at nose guard and defensive tackle for the Tigers. Earned honorable mention among Southwest Conference defensive linemen. Made one sack and one fumble recovery in 2013.
Zach Duin, Canby
Had 46 tackles and five sacks as the Lancers won four games and nearly upset Dawson-Boyd in the semifinal round of the section tournament.
Jason Polzin, Marshall
Produced 77 tackles and two fumble recoveries on defense. Offensively, he controlled the ball on every play as Marshall’s center.
Cole Hennen, Minneota/Lincoln HI
Made 113 tackles to place second among area defenders. On offense, he had more than 300 yards as a rusher and as a receiver.
Alec Engler, Minneota/Lincoln HI
Had 75 tackles on defense, while gaining more than 500 yards as both a rusher and receiver. Score 12 touchdowns in 2013.
Rick Jorgenson, TMB
Had 78 tackles, three sacks and one interception. Added 103 yards and two TDs on 23 rushing attempts.
Jordan Schroepfer, RRC
Led the area with 125 tackles on defense. Ran for 786 yards and seven touchdowns on offense. Was the top punter in the area after averaging 32.7 yards on 46 kicks.
Corey Castell, Canby
Piled up 87 tackles, seven sacks and one fumble recovery for the Lancers defense.
Brett Vercruysse, RTR
Chipped in 80 tackles, three sacks and an interception on defense. Ran for 474 yards and a touchdown on offense.
Logan Kluis, MCC
Made 102 tackles and made an impact on special teams as a kick returner for the Rebels.
Ted Sjurseth, Yellow Med. East
Came up with 78 tackles and posted three sacks for the Sting.
Brad Bahlmann, Marshall
Had 62 tackles and one interception on defense. As the Marshall quarterback, he threw for 940 yards, ran for 847 more and accounted for 17 touchdowns – eight passing and nine rushing.
Jacob Neu, Lakeview
Led all area defenders with seven interceptions, while adding 55 tackles and one fumble recovery. He caught 12 passes for 101 yards on offense.
Tristan Joel, WWG
Ended the season with five interceptions to lead the Chargers on defense. Offensively, he threw for 506 yards and ran for 251 more.
Andrew Hmielewski, Marshall
Had 31 tackles and two interceptions as a Tigers’ defensive back. Caught 26 passes for 426 yards and three TDs on offense.
Easton Popma, Dawson-Boyd
Made 86 kickoff attempts for 3,261 yards to average 42.8 yards a kick. No other kickoff specialist in the area came close. Also made 29 extra points in 2013.
Simon Ankerson, Minneota/LHI
Went 38 of 45 on extra points and connected on two field goals to score 44 points this season.
Tom Duetschmann, Wabasso
Was 35 of 40 on extra points to score 35 points in 2013.
Justin Kesteloot, Lakeview
Compiled 1,211 yards on 41 punting attempts to average 29.4 yards per kick this season.
Nathan Pavek, Minneota/LHI
Led the area in punt return yardage and was among the leaders in kick return yards. On offense, he ran for 896 yards and scored 14 touchdowns. Also caught 14 passes for more than 200 yards and a TD.
