PREP WRESTLING: Nine Lancers place at Keating
FOLEY – Nine Canby wrestlers placed among 14 weight classes during the fifth annual Tom Keating Memorial Tournament on Saturday.
At 182 pounds, Christian Full improved to 16-3 this season after becoming the runner-up in that weight class. He suffered a 2-0 decision to Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City’s Maverick Whitcomb in the championship match.
At 126, Quentin Bennigen (14-5) pinned Dassel-Cokato’s Tom Kesky in 50 seconds to place third.
Wyatt Johansen (15-7 at 113) and Cole Regnier (10-4 at 195) both earned fifth-place finishes. Johansen used a 6-0 decision to defeat Alexandria’s Ben Johnson, while Regnier had a 7-2 decision victory against ACGC’s Cody Berghius.
At 138, Jack Citrowske became 14-4 this season and ended up sixth after dropping a 4-2 decision to Holdingford’s Clem Gerads.
At 220, Adam Evenson ran his record to 11-7 after winning a 7-4 decision over Donovan Lill (unattached) in a seventh-place bout.
Payton Viessman (6-9 at 106), Billy Deslauriers (9-5 at 145) and Luke Jelen (2-2 at 160) all placed eighth for the Lancers.
Konnor King (10-8 at 120), Nick Antony (1-2 at 132), Kyler Jelen (6-7 at 152), Michael Peterson (6-9 at 170) and Gavin Benz (2-8 at 285) were wrestlers who did not place for Canby.
The Lancers scored 104 points in their seventh-place finish in the team standings. ACGC scored 262 points to win the team championship.
