National FFA scholarships available to local students
The National FFA Organization, in partnership with Schuneman Equipment Co. and John Deere, will award $2,000 scholarships to local FFA members. Applications are due by 4 p.m. (CST) Saturday, Feb. 1, and all applications require a signature page from students’ FFA adviser. Applications can be found online at www.FFA.org/Scholarships.
Awards will be given in May 2014 to high school seniors and collegiate FFA members who were residents of South Dakota counties: Brookings, Clark, Codington, Deuel, Grant, Hamlin, Kingsbury, Lincoln, Minnehaha, Moody, Roberts or Minnesota counties: Lincoln, Lyon, Pipestone, Rock. This scholarship is from Schuneman Equipment Co. and John Deere Company through a special project with the National FFA Foundation. Six local students will be selected by the National FFA Foundation, one for each of the six Schuneman Equipment Co. Stores.
For 30 years, scholarships have been made available through funding secured by the National FFA Foundation. This funding comes from individuals, businesses and corporate sponsors to encourage excellence and enable students to pursue their educational goals.
More than 1600 scholarships were awarded in 2013 through the National FFA Organization. Selections were based on the applicant’s leadership, academic record, FFA and other school and community activities, supervised agricultural or work experience in agricultural education and future goals.
Contact the local FFA organization or Melanie Wiegert, Schuneman Equipment Co. human resources manager, at mwiegert@SchunemanEq.com for more information about the scholarship program.
