First Lutheran pastor to be installed Sunday

First Lutheran Church invites the public to attend a Service of Installation for the Rev. Julie McCain Sunday at either 8:30 a.m. or 10:45 a.m. McCain graduated from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, Calif., with a degree in sociology, and from Luther Seminary in St. Paul with a master of divinity degree. The public is invited to help the First Lutheran congregation welcome the new pastor and her husband, Brannon, to the Marshall community of faith.

Local Catholic Daughters announce annual education contest

Youth, grades 4 through 12, and adult CDA members are invited to participate in the 2014 Court St. Joan of Arc #1291, Catholic Daughters of the Americas Education Contest. Entry deadline is Feb.10. Participants choose one of these themes: “Jesus loves us, how do we spread that love?” and “How do I promote peace in the world.” Individuals may enter more than one category but submit only one entry per category.

Note: Students may be Catholic and non-Catholic

Divisions and categories are as follows:

Division 1: Grades 4-5 – Essay, Poetry, Art, Computer Art

Division 2: Grades 6-8 – Essay, Poetry, Art, Computer Art, Music, Photography

Division 3: Grades 9-12 – Essay, Poetry, Art, Computer Art, Music, Photography

Division 4: Adult CDA members – Poetry, Art, Computer Art, Photography

Winners chosen at the local level will be forwarded to the state CDA. Winners at the state level will be forwarded to the national CDA level where the first-place winner in each category will receive $100; second: $50 and third $25. Court St. Joan of Arc will give awards to winners at the local Court level.

All entries must be returned by Feb. 10.
