GIRLS HOCKEY: Wyffels sends Tigers to OT victory
MARSHALL – Teegan Wyffels scored the game-winning goal as Marshall defeated Long Prairie-Gray Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek 4-3 in overtime on Friday at the Lockwood Motor Ice Arena.
Wyffels took a pass from Alysia Rupp and sent the puck past the Blue Devils goaltender 5:45 into the extra session.
The Tigers scored three times to establish a lead. After every goal Marshall scored in regulation time, LP-GE/W-DC provided the tying tally.
Lizzie Archbold made it 1-0 MHS after receiving a pass from Wyffels with 2:04 remaining in the first period.
Morgan Ziese tied the contest 1-1 on an assist from Kylee Damm after 4:26 expired in the second period.
Wyffels scored the first of her two goals a little more than four minutes later. The tally was unassisted as MHS took a 2-1 lead.
The Blue Devils scored a pair of third-period goals, but could not get the lead. Ziese made it 2-2 with a power-play goal as 13:54 remained in regulation.
Marshall had a 3-2 lead when Mikaya Campion scored an unassisted goal with 3:03 left in regulation.
But the Blue Devils forced overtime on Zara Einerwold’s goal with 1:11 remaining. She was assisted by Kathryn Benney.
Marshall (7-10-1 overall) outshot LPGE/W-DC 35-24. The Tigers play a Southwest Conference game at Windom Area at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
